Active English - learning in the real world

Our innovative Active English program is designed to immerse students in real-world situations, using language and communication skills to solve practical challenges. Through this approach, students develop eight essential, transferable skills that are crucial for success in both academic and professional settings.

At each level, students work towards honing their skills, ensuring they leave with a well-rounded foundation in key areas such as listening, speaking, problem-solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership, and teamwork.

These skills align with the Skills Builder Universal Framework, which provides a clear and structured approach to developing these critical competencies. Inspiring tuition at Claremont combines classroom activities, group work, project-based learning, and student presentations, catering to all ability levels.

Student led activities

During the onsite afternoon sessions, students will be responsible for their own activities. Each day there will be a variety of options available. These range from sporting, theatrical and outdoor activities. This is another opportunity to immerse the children in English utilising specific vocabulary honing their speaking and listening skills whilst having fun!

When and how can I pay?

Claremont Summer School 2024 will take place between 6th July to 15th August 2025.

Each two-week course will cost £2,995 excluding flights, travel insurance and airport transfers.

A Deposit of £500 will be required at time of booking (full payment required 10 weeks before the start of the course).

Application deadline: 31st May 2024.

What if my child has dietary requirements?

All food and catering will be provided by Claremont School's catering team. Please indicate on the Registration Form if your child has any particular dietary requirements and we will be happy to ensure that these are met.

Pocket money

Students will need some pocket money. There will be a full day excursion to London, as well as three half day trips during each course, to places such as Brighton. Both boarding houses are close to local amenities, so students will also have the chance to visit nearby shops during their stay. We ask that all pocket money is handed in to the residential team on arrival. The team will then distribute as required.

What if my child requires daily medication?

A fully qualified nurse will be on-hand throughout the duration of the course. Parents are required to fill in the Medical Form when registering their child for the course. Our medical staff are qualified to dispense medicine and parents must be careful to let us know about any medicine that needs to be dispensed to their child. All medicines must be handed over upon arrival at Claremont.

All the members of the Claremont Summer School team will be First Aid trained, prior to the start of the courses.

A member of our medical team will be in touch with the families of all students that require medication, ahead of the course starting.

In case of emergencies, families will be contacted immediately. All campuses at the School are within a 15-minute drive of the Conquest Hospital, Hastings.

Claremont School medical policies and procedures will be adhered to at all times.

Transport information

All airport transfers are coordinated by the Summer School team. A team of staff will be present to meet students at the airport and ensure that departures run smoothly. We will require all your flight details well in advance of the course, to ensure this is coordinated as smoothly as possible.

The School is within easy access of all London airports, which means travel arrangements can easily be arranged, and all airport transfers will be coordinated by the School. This is not included in the cost of the courses. Claremont has its own fleet of minibuses and will cover transport arrangements for all aspects of the programme.

Arrivals and Departures

It is preferable that students arrive and depart on a Sunday. However, we understand that this might not always be possible. The team is happy to help all families with travel arrangements, so just let us know your details and we will take it from there.

Flights:

These need to be arranged by families themselves. Once flights have been booked, we ask that you inform the Summer School office via email with details about flight numbers, flight times, airport and terminal.

Train:

Battle Station is on the main line from London and is and is close to the boarding facilities. The journey time from central London is 75 mins.

Car:

Some families will prefer to drop their child directly at the School. The address for arrivals and departures is: Pyke House, Upper Lake, Battle, East Sussex, TN33 0AN.
